* Husband arrested on suspicion of murdering Lankapura administrative officer

July 05, Colombo: Pulastipura Police has arrested the husband of Ms. Yamuna Padmini who was the chief administrative officer of the Lankapura Divisional Secretariat on suspicion of her murder this evening (05).

Ms. Padmini was murdered at around 2:30 in the morning on the 4th at her home in Talpotha Lankapura and her her husband (41), the father of two children, was arrested on suspicion, Lankapura Police OIC, Inspector P. P. K. Pathirana said. After a long interrogation of her husband, the police found the ax used to kill her hidden behind a shrub on a nearby land.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the cause of this murder was a dispute between the two regarding a loan.

The police said that her husband had lent some of her money to a certain person and the two had recently clashed over non-receipt of the amount as well as the interest.

According to the investigating police, the suspect has confessed that his wife scolded him for coming home drunk and not paying the debt, and the argument between the two got escalated and he attacked her with an ax.
