Tue, Jul 5, 2022, 11:58 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Opposition today staged a protest in parliament when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa arrived in the Parliament to attend the parliament sessions.

President Rajapaksa arrived in parliament to listen to the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s speech on the progress of negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

However, the Opposition MPs representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) commenced a protest in the House chamber holding placards and saying “Gota Go Home”.

The protest started while Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was addressing the assembly, and forced the President to leave.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena then adjourned the parliament for ten minutes due to the tense situation in the parliament.
