Dec 05, Colombo: The Ministry of Health has appointed a seven-member committee to carry out a comprehensive investigation regarding the private hospital where the organs are said to have been transplanted.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena stated that a seven-member committee including 05 expert doctors was appointed under the chairmanship of a Deputy Director General of Health Services.
Dr. Asela Gunawardena further stated that this investigation is being conducted on the advice of the Minister of Health, Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella, to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter, based on the facts that have been published by the media and other facts regarding the alleged organ transplant incident.
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has launched an investigation to arrest the suspects involved in an organized racket of obtaining kidneys from poor people promising big money and selling them to local and foreign people. Evidence has been obtained that kidney surgeries have been performed at a private hospital in Borella.
