* Power cuts extended from tomorrow after Norochcholai breakdown
Mon, Aug 15, 2022, 11:51 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 15, Colombo: The Ceylon Electricity Board states that due to the sudden breakdown of the first generator of the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai, the power cut period will be extended to three hours from tomorrow (16).

The first generator (Unit 01) of the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai with a capacity of 300 megawatts has malfunctioned due to a sudden technical fault. It is expected to take approximately two weeks to restore this generator.

Also, the second (Unit 02) generator of the Lakvijaya Power Plant is undergoing major overhaul these days, so its total capacity of 300 megawatts has been lost to the national system. Only the Unit 3 generator is functioning and therefore, the national grid has lost 600 megawatts from the 900-MW plant.

Due to this situation, the public is informed that there will be a power cut for 03 hours from August 16, 2022 (Tuesday).

Ceylon Electricity Board expresses its regret to the electricity consumers regarding the inconvenience caused in this regard.
