Sat, Aug 13, 2022, 12:23 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 12, Colombo: The last group of protesters who stayed at the Galle Face protest site are seen leaving today after the police ordered them to take their belongings and clear the protest site in 15 minutes.

The police took steps today to evacuate the protesters who had been staying at the site of the ‘Aragalaya’ (struggle) for 126 days. The police gave this notice to the protesters as an order under Section 95/1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act.

Few people still staying in the area earlier said they will continue to stay at the site. There were only 14 tents left at the site by this morning.

However, the police gave them about 15 minutes this afternoon to leave those places immediately. However, the activists said that they need some time to carry their belongings from that place. Accordingly, they are still removing their belongings from the Aragalaya site.

Police, Special Task Force and Urban Development Authority officials are currently present at this place.
