* Two tugs to be purchased to streamline operations at the port
Fri, Aug 12, 2022, 11:58 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 12, Colombo: Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva has instructed the officials of the Sri Lanka Port Authority to make necessary arrangements to purchase two more tugboats to make the operations of the port more efficient.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority currently has 7 operational level tug vessels. The two tugs are to be purchased in addition to the existing fleet.

The decision has been reached based on the facts discovered by the Minister during a recent observation tour of the tugboat unit.

With the increase in the number of tug vessels, the delays in handling the large cargo ships and feeder ships that are currently operated are expected to be reduced and the port operations will be able to be maintained with greater efficiency.
