* Petrol ship to arrive in Colombo today
Thu, Aug 11, 2022, 08:41 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 11, Colombo: Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has said that a ship carrying 35,000 metric tons of petrol is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tonight.

The Minister said the unloading of the petrol in the ship is scheduled for tomorrow.

The Minister of Energy also mentioned that the payment for the petrol ship was completed yesterday with the assistance of the Central Bank.

With the implementation of the National Fuel Pass QR system, the queues near the gas stations have ended completely. While the system was also appreciated by the people, many consumer groups say it will be more convenient if the fuel quota is increased.

The All Island Tipper Owners and Drivers Association says the weekly 200 liter quota of fuel that is available through the QR code system, is insufficient, especially when transporting heavy loads such as rocks and soil.

The Association says they need 500 liters of fuel per truck three times a week to keep the trucking industry functioning.
