* Death threats to NTC officials from bus owners after fare reduction
Thu, Aug 11, 2022, 12:28 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 11, Colombo: National Transport Commission (NTC) Chairman and the Director General have complained to the Narahenpita police after Commission officials faced death threats from bus owners who are against the reduction of bus fares.

Following a discussion held at the National Transport Commission premises on Tuesday regarding the bus fare revision, a group of bus owners have behaved in an unruly manner, threatening the Commission’s officials.

The bus owners have allegedly verbally abused other officials of the NTC office with profanities over the phone and threatened to kill them.

The Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media, Dr. Bandula Gunawardena has instructed the Ministry Secretary R.W.R. Pemasiri to conduct an internal investigation and take legal action against the bus owners for obstructing the duties of the Commission officials.

When inquired by Dinamina, the OIC of Narahenpita Police has confirmed that such a complaint has been received from the National Transport Commission and an investigation has been started in this regard.
