Aug 06, Colombo: Two suspicious persons who had entered the waters of the Polduwa High Security Zone near the Parliament Complex were arrested yesterday by a group of Navy officers engaged in security detail in Diyawanna Oya.
Navy says the two suspects who were arrested along with two boats and some other equipment have been handed over to Welikada Police for further investigation.
A suspicion has arisen as to what purpose the two came to high security zone and the police said that they are continuing to be interrogated in this regard.
Due to various attempts by protesters to enter the Parliament in the recent past, the security arrangements in the area around the Parliament were tightened.
Accordingly, the security provided by the Navy in the Diyawanna Oya around the Parliament was also increased and the two suspects were arrested by a team of Navy officers who were engaged in a special surveillance activity in the area.
