Aug 05, Colombo: Public Utilities Commission Chairman Janaka Ratnayake says that there will be no scheduled power cuts during this weekend (06th & 07th August). Today also at night, the power cut will be only for one hour.
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka said that this step was taken due to the increase in hydropower generation.
Due to the prevailing rain catchment areas these days, hydropower generation has increased to 60 percent of the total electricity generation.
Therefore, the Public Utilities Commission stated that the generation of electricity by diesel and oil power plants has been very low.
