Fri, Aug 5, 2022, 12:15 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 05, Colombo: The Police Media Spokesperson's Office has issued a special announcement regarding several complaints of theft of motorcycle number plates lodged at the police stations in Galle, Galle Harbor, Tissamaharama, Ahungalla and Kataragama police Divisions in the past few days.

During the investigation by the police stations regarding the related incidents, information has been revealed that the number plate of the motorcycle that came to shoot and kill a person in the Rathgama police division on July 31st was stolen in the Ahungalla police division on July 5th.

Also, the investigations have revealed that the number plate mounted on a car that was used by the unidentified gunmen to arrive and shoot a person in the Middeniya police division on June 26 was stolen from the Beruwala area.

During the investigations to arrest the criminals related to the shooting and murder incidents reported in the last few weeks, the Police have found that the registration number plates of the cars and motorcycles that the suspects had come with were false and stolen from various places.

The announcement also says the police suspect that the theft of motorcycle number plates in this way is a pre-plan to commit such crimes

Therefore, the police request drivers to be very careful when parking their motorcycles or vehicles on the road or any other places, especially at night.

The police also request the public to come to the nearest police station immediately and lodge a complaint after such a theft of the number plates.
