Aug 05, Colombo: With the special notification given by the Fort Police Station OIC to the protesters staying in Galle Face and nearby areas to remove the unauthorized constructions before 5.00 pm today (05), Police have observed that some activists who stayed in the ‘Aragalaya’ area have taken steps to remove many constructions including tents since Wednesday night.

A senior police officer said that if steps are not taken to remove the tents and constructions before 5:00 pm today (05), the Urban Development Authority which owns the land in the area will take steps to remove the unauthorized structures and the police will provide security.

The official further said that around 200 temporary structures such as tents, canopies and platforms have still been observed in the struggle area.

Meanwhile, the staff of St. John’s Ambulance Service, who had been providing first aid to the protesters who were staying at the Galle Face Aragalaya area until now, also left the area yesterday (04) afternoon in response to the police order.

The protesters meanwhile, said that even if the tents were removed, the struggle to bring the country back to its original state would not be stopped.
