* One dead, 12 injured as bus falls 80 ft in to precipice in Pundaluoya

Aug 04, Colombo: One person was killed and 12 passengers sustained injuries when a private bus plying from Pundaluoya to Gampola ran off the road and fell down about 80 feet in to a precipice in Malhewa area today (04), the Pundaluoya Police said.

While giving way to another bus to pass, the private bus has hit the body of the passing bus and slipped off the road falling down the precipice, according to the police.

The deceased has been identified as Y. M. Dhammika Hemantha Yapa (56), a Cooperative Development Officer in Nuwara Eliya Cooperative Development Department and a resident of Pussellawa, Nawakadora area.

The injured have been admitted to Kotmale and Gampola hospitals for treatment.
