Aug 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s new President Ranil Wickremesinghe Thursday re-affirmed that Sri Lanka is firmly committed to the one-China policy during a meeting with China’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong.
A meeting between President Ranil Wickramasinghe and Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenghong took place this morning (04) at the President’s Office.
The Chinese ambassador, who offered his greetings to Mr. Wickramasinghe, discussed the strengthening of the relations between the two countries.
Mr. Wickramasinghe reiterated Sri Lanka’s firm commitment to the one-China policy, as well as to the UN Charter principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.
“Countries must refrain from provocations which further escalate the current global tensions. Mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries are important foundations for peaceful cooperation and non-confrontation,” the President emphasized.
