Aug 03, Colombo: Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera this evening chaired a progress review meeting online with the development partners on the National Fuel Permit QR system introduced island wide from 01 August to distribute fuel.

A multiple of issues regarding the distribution of fuel were discussed at the meeting, the Minister said.

Providing the necessary facilities to register for the issuance of QR codes for other non-automotive fuel needs as soon as possible, multiple vehicle registration by business registration number from one phone number, Facilitating the registration of all vehicles with a unique business registration number for the government vehicles, facilitating the purchase of a fuel pass for travelers at the airport in dollars and development of facilities to automatically update fuel stocks at petrol stations, were discussed at the meeting.

Facilitation of increasing fuel quota as per requirement and tracing Illegal QRs and taking legal action against people who illegally prepare and use QR codes were also discussed.

According to the Minister, discussions focused on making the option to register fuel requirements for machinery, equipment and other non-vehicle requirements with QR to be available within the week.
