* Another suspect who stole tear gas canisters arrested

Aug 03, Colombo: Another individual, who stole tear gas canisters during the riots that took place last month near Welikada Polduwa junction, was arrested at Arunodaya Mawatha in Obeysekera Pura, Rajagiriya with 2 of the stolen canisters, Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Thalduwa said.

The 28-year-old suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate's Court today.

On the night of July 13th, when the police and the army jointly engaged in controlling the protest held at the Polduwa Junction in the Welikada police Division, three police officers of the Public Order Management Division who were carrying tear gas canisters in a three-wheeler were attacked and the tear gas canisters in their custody were stolen by a group of protesters, according to the Police.

Earlier last month the police arrested a 31-year-old resident of Polonnaruwa Kashyapa Pura 50 stolen teargas canisters.
