Aug 02, Colombo: Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, who is an activist of the ‘Aragalaya’ anti-government protest, has filed a fundamental rights petition before the Supreme Court requesting an order preventing his arrest.
Several officials including the Inspector General of Police, the Commander of the Army, the Commander of the Navy, the Attorney General, and the Senior DIG in Charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon have been named as respondents in the petition.
Fr. Jivantha Peiris has indicated in his petition that the respondents are preparing to arrest him without any reasonable basis. The petition has further requested that a verdict be given that hisfundamental rights are being violated and an order to prevent his arrest be issued.
