* Sri Lanka Navy arrests 47people attempted to migrate illegaly

Aug 01, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Navy says that 47 people suspected of attempting to illegally migrate to a foreign country by sea were arrested.

Based on information received by the Sri Lanka Navy, the Wennappuwa police jointly with the Navy conducted a special search operation in Wennappuwa town and arrested these suspects while observing and inspecting 03 suspicious vans.

Among the arrested are, 37 men of over 18 years of age, 06 women and 04 under 18 years of age.

The suspects were identified as residents of Jaffna, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Kalmunai, Batticaloa, Puttalam, Chillaw, Marawila, Mahawewa, Mundalama and Wellawatta.

The group was handed over to Wennappuwa Police for further investigations.
