* Another suspect in the murder of MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala arrested

May 28, Colombo: Another suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Polonnaruwa District parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala in Nittambuwa on May 9th.

Accordingly, the Police have arrested 17 suspects in connection with the shooting death of Polonnaruwa District Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala’s personal security guard, police sergeant, with his pistol and possession of the pistol, police said.

The police have received 855 complaints regarding the violence that took place in Kollupitiya, Galle Face and island wide on the 9th. Twenty seven suspects were arrested in connection with those incidents. Eight hundred and ninety eight of them have been remanded.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that further investigations are underway to find other suspects involved in the incident.

The police have received 855 complaints regarding the violence that took place on the 9th of May in Kollupitiya, Galle Face and island wide. So far 2,027 suspects have been arrested in connection with the violence and riots and 898 of them have been remanded, the Police Spokesman said.
