May 28, Colombo: The Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera providing an update on the stocks of fuel in the country said at present there are 17,077 metric tons of diesel and 1,072 metric tons of super diesel at the Kolonnawa and Muthurajawela Terminals of the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL).
The Minister said that there are 37,391 metric tons of 92 Octane petrol, 6,142 metric tons of 95 Octane petrol and 2,437 JET A1 fuel at present.
Meanwhile, a diesel ship is scheduled to arrive in the country tomorrow.
Meanwhile Jagath Wijegunaratne, Co-Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Branch of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya said the 79,000 metric tons of crude oil imported to Sri Lanka will be sufficient for only two weeks. He also requested the government to continue importing crude oil to Sri Lanka without allowing the Sapugaskanda oil refinery to be closed again.
The Sapugaskanda oil refinery is scheduled to resume operations after two months. The Sapugaskanda refinery was completely shut down on March 21 due to a shortage of crude oil.
