May 26, Colombo: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has obtained a statement from former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa regarding the violence that took place near Temple Trees and in the Galle Face area on the 9th of May and the reasons behind it.
It is reported that a team of officers from the CID had recorded a statement from the former Prime Minister for about 3 hours last evening (25).
According to police sources, the statement was obtained from the former Premier at an undisclosed place in Colombo.
Following Mahinda Rajapaksa’s announcement of his resignation from the Prime Minister post on May 9th, government supporters unleashed violence attacks on the peaceful anti-government protesters at Maina Go Gama in front of Temple Trees and at Gota Go Gama in Galle Face area.
