* CID records a five-hour statement from Johnston

May 24, Colombo: Former Minister Johnston Fernando has been summoned by the CID today (24) to record a statement regarding the attacks on the peaceful protesters that took place in front of Temple Trees and at the Galle Face on the May 9th.

Police sources who were called to the interrogation have said the CID questioned the former minister for more than 5 hours and recorded the statement.

Although Johnston Fernando was summoned to appear before the CID yesterday (23) for questioning, he did not appear yesterday.

After this questioning the former Minister has left the CID around 2.30 pm.

When it was reported that Johnston Fernando had appeared before the CID, a group of youths who had been at the protest site came out in front of the CID in the morning and staged a protest demanding his arrest.
