May 22, Colombo: intelligence officers of the Special Task Force (STF) of Police have arrested a man who was preparing to illegally trade USD 50,000 at the Welikada Plaza building in Welikada area.

The STF said the suspect, in his possession had 500 notes of US $ 100 bills and they were packed in five parcels of 100 notes each to trade by the illegal undiyal system of money transaction.

The suspect was apprehended by a team led by OIC Chief Inspector Nadeeka Silva following a tip off received by the STF Intelligence Division that the individual was suspiciously hanging around the first floor of the Welikada Plaza building in Welikada Police Division at around 7 PM yesterday.

Accordingly, the 36-year-old resident of Aluthmawatha, Colombo 15 was arrested during a search and found in possession of US $ 50,000.
