* Suspect arrested in the attack on a DIG and SP during May 9th violence

May 22, Colombo: Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the assault on a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and a Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Panchikawatte area in Maradana and set fire to a police vehicle following the violence that took place in front of Temple Trees and at the Galle Face on May 9th.

The assaulted SP is still receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital, according to the police.

After the assault on the officers, the suspects had stripped the car and taken its parts. Police have found one of the parts in the possession of the arrested suspect.

The suspect is a resident of Maradana.
