May 21, Colombo: Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said it has been reported that organized groups are preventing fuel trucks to pass certain areas demanding they be unloaded at different fuel stations and threatening to set fire to them.
In a Twitter message, the Minister said if the public continues to threaten the truckers delivering the fuel, then the government will have to suspend fuel deliveries for the safety of the transport work force.
Another haul of diesel and petrol is scheduled to begin unloading today (21), Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.
According to the Minister, diesel have been disturbed to all fuel stations island wide in the last 2 days and will continue distribution. Distribution of Petrol 92 and 95 commenced this morning and will continue to cover all fuel stations, he added.
Meanwhile, the government says payments are being completed for petrol, diesel and gas for next month. A senior spokesman said tenders had already been called for the procurement of petrol, diesel and gas for the month of July.
