May 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police say they have identified a large number of social media groups that have instigated the violence through social media at the Galle Face protest site on Monday (09).
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said 59 such social media groups and their group admins who have organized violent acts and crimes using social media networks on the 9th in the Galle Face and Kollupitiya areas as well as in various parts of the island, have been identified.
The spokesman said that legal action would be taken against them for these crimes even if they were outside of the island.
Police say that investigations have already been launched against them under the Computer Crimes Act and criminal law.
