* Attack on protesters: Director of former Prime Minister’s Security Division and several others summoned to CID

May 11, Colombo: The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has summoned a group of security officials including the Director of former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s security division and OIC of the Kollupitiya Police to record statements in connection with Monday’s attacks on unarmed ‘MinaGoGama’ and ‘GotaGoGama’ protesters.

Accordingly, statements are being recorded from the Kollupitiya OIC and the chief organizer of the meeting held at Temple Trees on the 9th.

IGP C.D. Wickramaratne Tuesday ordered the DIG in charge of the CID Immediately launch an investigation into the attack on peaceful protesters in front of Temple Trees and the Galle Face and damage to property, and take the necessary legal action.

A group of people who arrived at Temple Trees to show support to the former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has attacked the ‘MinaGoGama’ protesters in front of the Temple Trees and disregarding the police orders has gone and attacked the ‘GotaGoGama’ protesters in the Galle Face. Live footage of former Prime Minister’s supporters, armed with sticks, beating protesters at Galle Face Green, and tearing down and burning their tents were shown on Local TV.
