* Opposition Leader urges public to calm down and stay away from violence

May 10, Colombo: The Leader of the Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Sajith Premadasa has called on the people to refrain from committing atrocities including arson and assault and appealed to all the people to be peaceful first.

The Leader of the Opposition said that democracy in the country could not be established through barbaric acts and that it would only lead to destruction.

Opposition Leader said the country will inherit destruction due to violence and that the country has experienced such devastation for decades in the past.

“Therefore, at this crucial juncture, everyone should act peacefully and calmly,” he said, adding that there was no escape for anyone in the Rajapaksa government who attacked the youth and the people who were fighting for democracy.

He also said that a government under SJB will strictly enforce the law against those who spread terrorism in the country.

Opposition Leader reiterated his appeal to all the people of the country to be peaceful first.
