May 10, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has called on the public to remain calm without resorting to violence and retaliation.

The President in a Twitter message says the violence and retaliation against all communities, regardless of political affiliation, must end immediately.

The President says that all measures will be taken to ensure political stability through consensus and in accordance with the constitution.

The President also stated that the primary focus will be on resolving the economic crisis.

I appeal and urge people to remain calm & stop violence & acts of revenge against citizens, irrespective of political affiliations.

All efforts will be made to restore political stability through consensus, within constitutional mandate & to resolve economic crisis.
