* IMF delegation briefs the President on progress of the discussions

June 24, Colombo: The visiting delegation of the International Monetary Fund called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the President’s House, Colombo this afternoon (24) to brief him on the progress in the discussions held so far on resolving the economic crisis.

The IMF delegation that has been in Sri Lanka for a week studies the relevant policies in detail in order to reach a staff-level agreement.

The IMF delegation briefed the President on the discussions held with economic authorities including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, other officials and experts and on the current situation.

The delegation stated that they look forward to assisting Sri Lanka in this difficult time in line with the policies of the International Monetary Fund.

The President elaborated on the current economic situation and thanked the delegation for their support to Sri Lanka during this difficult time.

The IMF delegation consisted of Peter Breuer, Senior Operations Head, International Monetary Fund, Chief of Operations Masahiro Nozaki, Resident Representative Dr. Tubagus Feridhanu Setyawan, Deputy Director, Asia Pacific Department Anne Marie Gulde and Alternative Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, Dr. C. Amarasekera.

Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath, Chief of Staff to the President Anura Dissanayake, Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Secretary to the Finance Ministry KMM Siriwardena, Deputy Finance Secretary MSS Saman Fernando, Deputy Governor. Mrs. TMJYP Fernando, Director, Department of Economic Research; Dr. PKG Harischandra were also present on the occasion.
