June 23, Colombo: An Army officer has been arrested for assaulting a police officer in the Dummaladeniya area in Warakapola.

Two Warakapola police officers, an officer from the Boyagane Army camp and several soldiers were deployed to guard a petrol station in the area, police said.

A confrontation ensued between a police sergeant and an Army lieutenant during an argument that got escalated and the Army officer has allegedly assaulted the police officer.

The injured police sergeant is being treated at the Warakapola Hospital, police said.

The suspect Army lieutenant has been arrested by the police.
