* Dhammika Perera sworn in as Member of Parliament
Wed, Jun 22, 2022, 11:39 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 22, Colombo: Leading businessman Dhammika Perera was sworn in as a Member of Parliament before Speaker today (June 22).

When the parliamentary session commenced at 10.00 a.m. this morning, Dhammika Perera took oath as a National List parliamentarian of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

His name was proposed to the Election Commission to fill the National List parliamentary seat vacated by the resignation of former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

The Supreme Court yesterday decided to dismiss five fundamental right petitions filed challenging his nomination to the parliament. The court’s verdict paved the way for Mr. Perera to take oaths today.

Prior to his swearing in, Dhammika Perera has handed over his declaration of assets and liabilities and the tax clearance report to the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

Speculations are ripe that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will appoint Mr. Perera as the cabinet minister of the newly created Ministry of Technology and Investment Promotion.
