* Two arrested for clashing with Army at Vishvamadu army checkpoint

June 19, Colombo: Puthukkudiyiruppu Police said that Army soldiers fired into the air to control a tense situation erupted between a group of people who had come to get fuel and soldiers near a petrol station in the Vishwamadu area in Kilinochchi personnel.

Residents of the area said that the unrest had arisen due to an incident where a person who had come to get fuel had disrupted Army duties near an army checkpoint at Vishvamadu

When the army tried to restrain the unruly person, the group of persons near the petrol station had obstructed the duty of the officers and had attacked them with bottles, causing unrest.

Puthukkudiyiruppu Police said that civilians also attacked a vehicle carrying troops and caused damage to the vehicle.

Police said that additional troops were called in to control the situation and that Army personnel fired into the air to control the unruly crowd.

Three soldiers and two civilians were injured in the incident. The injured soldiers were rushed to the Kilinochchi Hospital while the civilians were taken to the Mancholai Hospital under police protection.
