* Sri Lanka Speaker contracts COVID-19

Jan 29, Colombo: Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has also contracted the COVID-19 novel coronavirus.

Speaker Abeywardena remained at his home till last evening and thereafter was admitted to the Infectious Disease Hospital, local news reports said.

Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said a rapid antigen test performed after he experienced a feverish condition has confirmed that he has contracted the virus.

Twelve parliamentarians have contracted the Covid since the opening of the parliament on the 18th in the new year.
