Jan 20, Colombo: Five passengers to Dubai were arrested by the Customs Narcotics Division at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today (20) for attempting to smuggle foreign currency worth Rs. 42 million, a Customs spokesman said.
All five passengers including three females are residents of the Colombo area.
Among the foreign currencies seized from the suspects’ possession were 22,300 US dollars, 63,500 Euros, 8,725 Sterling Pounds, 292,000 Saudi Arabian Riyals and 75 UAE Dirhams.
The Customs Narcotics Division has commenced further investigations into the foreign currency seized and the smugglers who smuggled it.
