Jan 20, Colombo: Colombo High Court fixed the case filed against Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne and former Chairman of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation Rumi Mohammed in connection with the controversial ‘White Van Press Conference’ during the 2019 Presidential Election for March 15th.
The order was issued when the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte today. .
President’s Counsel Anil Silva, appearing for the accused Rajitha Senaratne at the time, stated that the accused had not yet been able to examine the computer generated evidence in the case and that he hoped to raise objections in this regard. .
Accordingly, the High Court Judge informed that it will be called on February 18 to consider the future course of this case.
The judge then ordered that the case be reopened on March 15.
Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne and former Chairman of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation Mohamed Rumi are accused of making false allegations against then Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa during a media briefing that caused a great deal of controversy during the last Presidential Election.
Defendants, including former Minister Rajitha Senaratne, have been charged under the Penal Code for holding a press conference in Colombo during the last presidential election, making statements about the abduction of people in white vans, fabricating false evidence and committing a corrupt act that could have affected the outcome of the presidential election.
