Tue, Jan 18, 2022, 11:59 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 18, Colombo: A retired doctor has been arrested in Piliyandala in connection with placing a hand grenade in the All Saints Church on Ananda Rajakaruna Mawatha in Borella, the crimes investigation unit of the Colombo South Division said.

The suspect was arrested based on the information retrieved during interrogation of a 65-year-old suspect, Liyanage Dayasena who was arrested in the Panamura area in Embilipitiya about three days ago, the police said.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect, who was working as a doctor at the Piliyandala District Hospital, had been running a private medical center nearby and the suspect arrested in Panamura had worked as a security guard at the medical center at the time, senior police sources said.

It is being revealed that the suspect as well as the money and the bomb had been given to him by this retired doctor, and the exact reason for this has not been revealed yet, the senior police officer said.

It has been revealed that the bomb found at a private hospital in Narahenpita a few months ago has also been planted by this retired doctor, but the doctor will be questioned at length to confirm this, the senior police officer said.
