Jan 17, Colombo: The Mount Lavinia Police yesterday (16) arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a number of crimes.
The suspect, who was staying near the Ratmalana Airport, was arrested on suspicion and information about him was revealed during interrogation.
It has been revealed that he has committed a number of crimes in the Baddegama, Pitigala, Elpitiya and Thelikada police divisions.
According to the police, he has broken into the Thalawa Sanasa Bank in Baddegama and stealing Rs. 954,094. He has also alleged of breaking into Garadewala Rural Bank in Thelikada police division and stealing Rs. 485,000 and Rs. 900,000 worth gold jewelery.
He is also involved in the robberies of Mattaka Samurdhi Bank and Elpitiya Ethkadura Sanasa Bank and the theft of money and property, according to the police.
The arrested suspect is a 35 year old resident of Meewaduma, Baddegama area, police said.
It has been revealed that the suspect has been issued an open warrant by the Galle Magistrate’s Court, police said.
The suspect was produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court yesterday (16) and remanded till the 28th.
Mount Lavinia Police are conducting further investigations.
