* PM opens Tomlin Park and Municipal Vehicle Park built for pilgrims visiting Kandy

Jan 17, Colombo: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Sunday declared open the Tomlin Park and the Municipal Car Park which were built for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy.

The Tomlin Park with the state-of-the-art resting places have been built by the Strategic Cities Development Program and the ‘Siyak Nagara’ Development Project of the Government under the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.

After the opening, the Premier visited the Park and was briefed by MMJEG Bandara, Principal Adviser, Strategic Urban Development Project, on the progress of the project.

Built with the financial assistance of the World Bank at a cost of Rs. 374 million, the Tomlin Park comprises rooms for pilgrims, sanitary facilities and 16 trade stalls.

Afterwards the Prime Minister opened the ‘Sahas Uyana’ Municipal Vehicle Park resting place built with the financial assistance of the World Bank at a cost of Rs. 531 million.

The ‘Sahas Uyana’ resting place comprises a food court, 100 stalls to sell artifacts unique to Kandy, an open theatre, a children’s park, sanitary facilities and a resting area.

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Central Province Governor Lalith U Gamage, State Ministers Dilum Amunugama and Lohan Ratwatte, MPs Wasantha Yapabandara, Goonetileke Rajapaksa, and Udayana Kirindigoda, Kandy Mayor Kesara Senanayake, and other senior officials were present at the occasion.
