* Sri Lanka Navy opens two COVID-19 vaccination centers from today

Jan 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy has commenced an inoculation drive to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to the general public at the Keththarama Maha Viharaya, Colombo and Nawaloka Ground, Welisara from this morning (14th January 2022).

In a media statement, the Navy said it joined hands with the vaccination efforts supporting the COVID-19 vaccination program carried out by the Armed Forces focusing on the general public to control the transmission of the pandemic.

Accordingly, the Navy vaccination centre at the Keththarama Maha Viharaya will administer the Pfizer vaccine as the booster dose to those who have completed both the first and second doses of any vaccine for COVID-19. Also, the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine is given here to people between the ages of 16 and 20 and the individuals between the ages of 18 and 20 who have received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine are also given the second dose of the same vaccine.

Similarly, at the Nawaloka Ground the Pfizer vaccine is administered as the booster dose to people who have completed both the first and second doses of any of the vaccines for COVID-19 and the first dose of the same jab (Pfizer) is given to people between the ages of 12 and 20. Further, those between the ages of 18 and 20, who have already received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, are also administered the second dose of the same. Apart from that, the first and second doses of the Sinopharm vaccine are also given to people over 20 years of age at this center.

The vaccination drives are being conducted adhering to COVID-19 protocols to prevent possibilities of transmission of the pandemic.

The Navy vaccination centers will be open to the public from today (14th January) for the next few days at the Keththarama Maha Viharaya in Colombo from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm and at the Nawaloka Ground, Welisara from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm.

The Navy said it will continue to pledge its support for the Government COVID-19 vaccination drive for the general public in the future as well.
