* Cabinet nod to import of 300,000 metric tons of rice

Jan 11, Colombo: The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardena to import 300,000 metric tons of rice.

The measure has been proposed to ensure that there are sufficient stocks of rice in the open market.

Accordingly, the Minister of Trade has received approval to import 200,000 metric tons of Nadu Rice and 100,000 metric tons of GR 11 short Grain Rice type of rice as a substitute for Samba Rice to ensure the availability of required rice consignments in the open market.
