* Police arrest 613 people for violating quarantine rules

Sept 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police have arrested 613 people for violating quarantine laws in the past 24 hours, ending at 6.00 am Saturday (18). The police have also seized 104 vehicles during this period.

Accordingly, 74,507 people have been arrested so far for violating the quarantine law following the imposition of quarantine curfew regulations on October 30 last year due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Meanwhile, 2,972 persons were also inspected at 13 roadblocks set up at the entry/exit points to the Western Province yesterday (17).

A statement issued by the Police Media Unit said 294 persons attempting to cross the border into Western Province without proper permission were ordered to return.
