Sept 17, Colombo: The decision on whether to extend or lift the curfew currently in effect nationwide is due to be announced today (17).
It has been 28 days since the curfew was imposed on August 20. It was scheduled to be removed at 4 a.m. on the 30th, but was extended to September 6 and then extended to 4 a.m. on September 13. Taking into consideration the current COVID-19 situation, the curfew was extended to 4 am on the 21st.
Accordingly, it will be decided at today's meeting of the Special Committee on COVID-19 Control, chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa whether to further extended the curfew or to reopen the country with travel restrictions.
However, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva says that the decision will be taken considering the data presented in this regard. A team has also been appointed to recommend restrictions in the event of opening of the country.
