Sept 14, Colombo: In par with the national policy framework ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendor’, it has been aimed to obtain the maximum electricity requirement from renewable energy sources by the year 2030.
The government has taken a policy decision to satisfy 70% of the total electricity requirement from renewable energy sources by 2030 and to take necessary actions to develop total decarbonization of energy generation by the year 2050.
In terms of the said policy framework of the government Ceylon Electricity board has to prepare the “Minimum Cost Long Term Generation Plan” subject to Sri Lanka Electricity Act No, 20 of 2009 and its amendments.
The Minister of Electricity shall issue general policy guidelines to the Ceylon Electricity Board in terms of section (5) of the said act for the preparation of the said generation plan.
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the proposal furnished by the Minister of Electricity for the issuance of the applicable guidelines.
