* JVP alleges government of attempting to sell Kerawalapitiya power plant to an American company
Mon, Sep 13, 2021, 11:46 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 13, Colombo: The JVP alleging that the government plans to sell the ownership rights of the Kerawalapitiya Power Plant to a US company, called on the people to defeat the attempts by the Rajapaksa government to transfer national resources to foreigners.

Addressing the media at the party headquarters, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the current rulers are in the process of transferring large amounts of national resources to foreigners, although a key factor in building this regime was the idea of protecting national resources.

The JVP leader disclosed that when the Cabinet was recently convened through Zoom Technology, a cabinet paper which had not been issued before, was discussed and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, with his oral submissions, got the Cabinet to approve to sell 40% of the Kerawalapitiya power plant and the gas pipeline and terminal power plant to an American company.

According to MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance has been given the authority over the terms of sale, prices, and the agreement to be signed and so on. The schedule states that the paper was passed without allowing the ministers to express any views.

“The final decision to hand over the Kerawalapitiya power plant to an American company has been taken while the people are waiting for solutions for the economic issues and the Covid disaster they are suffering from.”

“Those who are in the process of selling national resources are sitting on the top chair of our country and the chair of the Ministry of Finance. We emphasize to the people that this situation should be defeated. In the face of the Covid situation, it has become difficult to explain things to the people. However, the government is taking destructive measures against the country using this situation. The general public must come out against this process,” the JVP leader urged.
