Sept 12, Colombo: Prof. Channa Jayasumana, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals says that steps will be taken to vaccinate children with special needs with the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine from next week.
The State Minister said another 4 million doses of Pfizer vaccine are due to be delivered to Sri Lanka in October. He also stated that he is looking forward to making recommendations for vaccinating school children.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka College of Pediatricians (SLCP) said the children with comorbidities (long term illnesses) above 12 years will be vaccinated in government hospitals with Pfizer vaccine starting from 21st September 2021.
SLCP member pediatrician Dr. R. M. Surantha Perera told media that the vaccination of children will be carried out in three stages. In the first stage children with chronic diseases will be given the vaccine and next stage A/L and O/L students will be vaccinated. In the third stage, with everyone’s agreement, the vaccine will be given to the rest of the children, especially those over 12 years of age.
