* Second phase of the Central Expressway will be opened to the public on November 15

Sept 11, Colombo: Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando states that the second phase of the Central Expressway from Meerigama to Kurunegala could be opened to the public by November 15.

The second section of the Central Expressway includes the 39.70 km distance from Mirigama to Kurunegala.

The Minister said that although the work on the Central Expressway was scheduled to be completed nine months ago, it had been delayed due to the removal of contractors

The Minister made this observation while participating in an observation tour and in a tree planting program held on the expressway section.

Construction of the third section of the Central Expressway has also commenced. Its total length from Pothuhera to Galagedara via Rambukkana is. 31.7 km. This section of the expressway consists of 4 interchanges at Pothuhera, Polgahawela, Rambukkana and Galagedara.
