* CID commences an investigation into a complaint lodged by the head of the State Intelligence Service

Oct 27, Colombo: The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed the Colombo Magistrate’s court today that it has commenced investigations into a complaint lodged by the head of the State Intelligence Service, Major General Suresh Sallay.

The SIS chief had filed a complaint with the CID regarding the allegations made by Father Cyril Gamini and several other individuals during an online forum held on Monday (25) to brief Sri Lankan community living overseas on the Easter Sunday attacks.

The CID filing a confidential report before the court in connection with the incident informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C. Ragala today (27) that the ‘Global Forum for Justice’ had conducted a clarification via Zoom on the 23rd to educate the local and international community on the Easter Sunday attacks.

The CID also told the court that a complaint had been lodged by the head of the State Intelligence Service to conduct an investigation into the false statements presented at the forum.

The CID has informed that statements will be recorded from all parties regarding the complaint and further investigations will be conducted and facts will be reported to the court.

After considering the facts, the Chief Magistrate ordered the CID to conduct investigations into the complaint and report to the court.

Father Cyril Gamini participating in a forum through Zoom on 23 October 2021 regarding the Easter Sunday attack has reportedly alleged that the Sri Lankan intelligence units had provided financial and other vital assistance to the leader of the National Thowheed Jamath, Saharan Hashim, who led the suicide attacks on Easter Sunday in 2019.
