Oct 27, Colombo: A three-judge bench of the High Court has summoned former Director of the State Intelligence Service Nilantha Jayawardena to appear in court on the 22nd November to give evidence in the case against former IGP Pujith Jayasundera and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando who have been charged for failing to prevent the Easter Sunday Attack in April 2019.

The two former top officials have been accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack, and charged of criminal negligence and murder.

The former Chief of State Intelligence has been summoned before a three-judge bench of the High Court to give evidence on a request made by the Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris leading the case representing the Attorney General.

The case is being heard by a special three-judge bench comprising High Court Judges Namal Balalle, (Chairman) Aditya Patabendige and Mohamed Irshadeen, appointed by the Chief Justice at the request of the Attorney General.

Former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando have been charged with failing to take action to prevent a series of suicide bombings targeting Catholic churches and star hotels on Easter Sunday in 2019 despite receiving prior information.

The Attorney General had filed 864 indictments under Sections 296 and 300 of the Penal Code, including attempted murder against the two former officials.
