* Over 81,000 people arrested for violating the quarantine rules

Oct 26, Colombo: As of today (26), 81,353 people have been arrested for violating quarantine rules following the imposition of quarantine regulations on October 30 last year with the expansion of COVID-19, according to the Police Headquarters.

A statement issued by the Police Headquarters stated that 13 persons have been arrested for violating the quarantine rules during the 24 hour period from 06.00 am yesterday (25) to 06.00 am today (26).

A total of 542 vehicles and 1,088 persons leaving the Western Province were inspected yesterday at 13 roadblocks set up in the Western Province. In addition, 684 vehicles and 1154 persons entering the Western Province were also inspected.

Accordingly, 133 vehicles and 272 persons that had crossed the roadblocks without proper permits were sent back, according to the Police Headquarters.
